Celebrating over 1,000 homes sold in South Hillsboro!

Ever since our debut in 2019—when local press hailed us “not your grandpa’s suburbs”—Reed’s Crossing has captured the hearts of Portland-area homebuyers with unique homes, bountiful green space, and a warm feeling of community that can be sorely lacking in the modern world. Last month, after celebrating the significant milestone of over 1,000 homes sold, we decided to seek out the top four things that make people want to call our master-planned community in South Hillsboro home.

Here’s what they said:

Tons of Open Space

With four times the required amount of open space, Reed’s Crossing will be home to over 80 acres of it by completion—nearly 20% of the community!

Home to numerous parks—including Oak Grove Park, Dobbin Park, Tamarack Park, and the brand-new Reed’s Crossing Park—the community also boasts several small gathering spaces dotted between the homes, like community gardens, picnic areas, cafe tables, and fire pits perfect for chatting with neighbors. Running through the center of the area, an expansive 23-acre Greenway helps residents connect to the community while providing a protected habitat for local wildlife, from frogs to egrets and blue herons. We’ve even heard tales of a rare Mallard duck with an unusual pale-blue beak!

The neighborhood also provides a valuable place for children to learn about the local ecosystem in their very own outdoor classroom, the Nature Education Zone. This cleverly designed outdoor space encourages kids to learn, explore, and ask questions, and serves as an excellent class trip for Hillsboro's newest elementary school, located within the community near Tamarack Park.

Location, Location, Location

Situated at the gateway to South Hillsboro, Reed’s Crossing was designed to let people leave their cars at home—some of the state’s biggest job centers are less than 5 miles away, including Nike, Intel, and Salesforce. At just 474 acres, it’s significantly more intimate than most master-planned communities, with an interconnected network of paths that make it easier to get around.

Within the community, the new Town Center is centrally located, less than a mile away from every home. In addition to a Market of Choice grocery store, confirmed businesses include a popular burger joint, a smoothie bar, Korean fried chicken, sushi, banking, spa/skincare services, a locally-owned lifestyle boutique, and much more to come.

Across the street, the new Providence Health Center is designed around a more personal healthcare experience, with primary and urgent care for all ages as well as mental health specialists, nutritionists, physical therapists, and more. Inside, you’ll also find Active Wellness Center, with indoor/outdoor pools, boutique fitness studios, the latest cardio and strength training, and lifestyle programs designed to holistically bring together fitness and wellness for a healthy mind, body, and spirit. And finally, the Town Center is home to The Ackerly at Reed’s Crossing, a resort-style residential option for retirees and older adults that’s perfect for families who want to stay close.

Sustainability & Healthy Living

Rooted in a 50-plus-year legacy of cultivating communities, Newland has always been at the forefront of sustainable initiatives. Every home at Reed’s Crossing is built to Earth Advantage Silver or equivalent certification, meeting strict green building standards in five categories: energy efficiency, healthy indoor air quality, resource efficiency, environmental responsibility, and water conservation. All homes are solar-ready, and are designed with electric vehicle charging stations in mind.

While master-planned communities are often viewed as “cookie-cutter,” residents say that’s simply not the case here. Our vibrant community is filled with a variety of diverse home styles and floor plans from six popular, award-winning builders, many of whom offer smart home tech like thermostats and water heaters that can help reduce energy consumption. And, unlike the resale market, many of the builders at Reed’s Crossing work with homebuyers to design and build their perfect home.

Sense of Community

When you build a new community from the ground up, the residents are active participants in creating the neighborhood’s vibe. Many who bought into Reed’s Crossing in the early days tell us the main thing they were looking for was a strong sense of community. And this is reflected in their daily lives—every day, we hear stories of residents leaving flowers on a new neighbor’s porch, next-door pups becoming fast friends, or older residents “adopting” their younger neighbors.

A majority of homeowners have furry family members, and love sharing their adventures on social media with the hashtag #PetsOfReeds. From bowling nights to brunches in the park, browse the hashtag #ReedsCrossing on Instagram and you’ll meet a wonderfully welcoming group. Whether you just want someone to chat with on evening walks or to throw block parties for your whole street, this is a place where people truly come together.
