Brewing connection: Coffee & community in the Pacific Northwest
Here in the PNW, coffee is more than just a morning drink; it’s a way of life. It was once said that Portland had more coffee shops per capita than any other city in America, and it’s true that small-batch roasters and cozy cafes can be found around every corner. Studies have even shown that a significant percentage of homebuyers prioritize living near amenities like a coffee shop. But in Reed’s Crossing, coffee takes on a deeper role: as a catalyst for connection, conversation, and community.
A Culture Steeped in Coffee
Oregon’s love affair with coffee isn’t just about great beans; it’s about the experience. It’s woven into weekends at the farmers market, morning walks with neighbors, and quiet moments on the porch. More than just a beverage, it’s part of the lifestyle, and plays a key role in how people here connect and build community.
Step into any local shop and you’ll see friends catching up over pour-overs, remote workers camped out with laptops and lattes, and baristas who know your name and your order. It’s casual, unhurried, and authentic—a perfect distillation of life in the PNW.
Designed for Gathering
At Reed’s Crossing, many residents start their day at Insomnia Coffee Co., just steps from home, where local beans and familiar faces create a daily rhythm that feels both grounding and inspiring. A beloved locally-owned chain in the Portland area, Insomnia Coffee Co. at Reed’s Crossing is their seventh location, serving up bold coffee, delicious pastries, and a welcoming environment for socializing, studying, or relaxing. Here, you’ll see your neighbors, catch up with old friends, and make new ones.
Locals also love the Market of Choice coffee bar for a quick pick-me-up. Proudly serving locally roasted coffee, tea, and smoothies made with local produce, it’s a great option for a shopping break, morning jolt, or post-run boost. (Pro tip: check out their incredible showcase of Nike shoes from the "Doernbecher Freestyle" program, which invites young patients at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital to design unique Nike footwear that are then sold or auctioned to raise money for the hospital. The program has raised over $37 million for the hospital since its inception in 2004!)
If you’re more of a tea person, we invite you to visit Redstraw Tea Bar in Reed’s Crossing, serving up everything from traditional teas to cocktail-inspired specialty drinks. From savory to sweet, all teas are made fresh to order with clean ingredients in a cozy setting perfect for lazy mornings or busy afternoons.
Support Local, Sip Local
But our love of coffee doesn’t stop at the shops in Reed’s Crossing Town Center. More than just a beverage, we believe coffee in the PNW acts as a catalyst for community and connection. Whether it’s a passionate conversation with a local roaster at the Hillsboro Farmers’ Market in Reed’s Crossing Park, a pop-cup coffee truck at a local event, a shared cup over a community fire pit, or even a porch with comfortable spots for sipping and sharing stories, we’ve designed a community full of intentional spaces that make it easy to pause and chat with with your neighbors. In a fast-moving world, we invite you to slow down—and lean in.
