Shared zip code, shared lives: How one multi-gen family thrives at Reed's Crossing

In a world where we all seem to be moving further apart, it’s refreshing (and rare!) to meet a family that has chosen to settle in the same community. Recently, we sat down with Samantha—instructor for the HOA’s weekly Yoga in the Park event who lives in Reed’s Crossing alongside her twin sister and parents—to chat about everything from their strengthening bonds to their favorite local spots. Turns out, when your family is this close, the effects can be life-changing.

First, tell us a little about your family.

I’m Samantha. My twin sister, Genevieve, and her husband, Bryce—along with their two children—reside just a door down from me. My mother and stepfather live on the other side of me.

What would you tell other families considering moving to the community together?

It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. One thing I love even more is that my twin is just one door down from me. We can text and say, “Hey, morning tea outside,” and sit and chat. We can simply walk to each other’s homes without having to drive. It’s great because we get to see each other more often. My twin and I see each other every day and get to spend quality time together. It has made a significant difference in my overall health and happiness.

What initially drew you all to this community?

I fell in love with the homes and the overall look of the area. My mother moved here before me, and I knew I wanted to be a part of the community. I love all the pathways and parks, and I enjoy participating in the community activities. Everyone here is so friendly.

Which builder did you choose, and why?

I ended up buying with David Weekley Homes. After spending time with their sales consultant, Leslie, I knew this builder was the one for me. Leslie’s customer service skills are amazing and the entire process from start to end was amazing. They made you feel as if you were home, and even now I make an effort to go visit them often.

How does the community support the different life stages of your family—whether that’s retirement, parenting, or working life?

Here, we’ve become a close-knit family. We all look out for one another. If someone needs help with something at home, we’re there to lend a hand. If someone isn’t feeling well, we check in and offer extra assistance if needed.

Do you have any traditions or routines you’ve created here together?

We often have game nights!

How does each family member see the community differently? Are there things each of you values in a unique way?

Overall, we share similar interests and are very local to everything. My mom enjoys the bike paths and yoga classes, while my twin loves the parks for her kids. Since I dog-sit, the paths and dog parks have been great for me.

How has it impacted your day-to-day life and relationships with one another?

Living near my family has made a significant difference in my personal and professional life. It has helped me succeed in both areas. I work a lot and study, and there are times when I can’t run errands or get rides to the airport. But my family is always there for me. It’s so easy to meet up for quick lunches or dinners, bike rides, or walks in the park. Overall, it has made life very enjoyable.
